Breaking the Stigma of Adult Illiteracy

Meet Judith. She is 63 years old and one of the many Rwandan women who didn’t have a chance to go to school. Without literacy skills, her only option remained subsistence farming, backbreaking work that provided just enough food to feed her family.

A neighbor told her about Ready for Reading’s Kinyarwanda literacy classes and she decided to enroll.

“At Ready for Reading I got a chance to take literacy and numeracy and learn how to apply these in daily life. After graduating from the program, I now have a job as a Community Health Worker which helped me to roof my house after 12 years wishing to. Now I am confident old woman who have hope for the future.”
